What is Manipulative Physiotherapy?
This is a branch of physiotherapy specialising in the treatment of musculo-skeletal problems that involve structures such as the nerves, muscles and joints. These include:
Sciatica
This is pain that radiates down the leg from the back, often to the buttock, thigh, lower leg or foot. It may be associated with feelings of numbness and variable pins and needles. Mobilisation, manipulation, traction, exercises and or rest can be used in the treatment of this condition. |
Industrial Injuries
Prevention of injuries is fundamental and manipulative physiotherapists can advise on any of the following; back pain, neck pain, over use syndromes (eg.OOS) and general pains and strains. Manipulative physiotherapists also provide advice on rehabilitation programmes, lifting techniques, work posture and work fitness programme in addition to ergonomic advice and treatment when required. |
Tennis Elbow
Problems around the elbow may arise from several sources. Effective treatment will include mobilisation of the elbow join and or soft tissues, together with examination and treatment of the neck. |
Back or Disc Problems
Most of the population will suffer from low back pain at some stage of their lives. The discs and the small joints of the back can be the source of the pain. Relief can be offered with manipulative physiotherapy and specific exercises to enhance normal function. Injury or Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation of physical injuries is essential. Specific techniques in the early stages assist a quicker recovery. For conditions such as whiplash, or post surgery, or once a fracture has healed, manipulative physiotherapy may help to restore normal function in combination with exercise. |
